3 Unique Ways to Personalize your Wedding at a popular Venue
Nick & Bailey 8/31/25
When you book your wedding at a well-loved venue, you’re joining countless other couples who have also fallen in love with the space. Popular venues are beautiful for a reason—they’re tried and true, with a reputation for unforgettable weddings. But if you’re wondering how to make your day feel personal and unique in a place that’s hosted many celebrations before, you’re not alone. The good news? With a little creativity, your wedding can stand out while still taking full advantage of the venue’s charm.
My August Couple, Nick & Bailey got married at the infamous Misselwood on the North Shore of Boston. This gem of a venue right on the ocean is an extremely popular spot to host a wedding. I’ve written about all the reasons before in a previous blog. Feel free to check it out. With it being the grounds for hundreds of weddings a year Bailey and Nick along with their planner Steph King Events decided to personalize the space so that it stood apart from other Misselwood Weddings.
We are done with predictable color palettes
Even if your venue like Misselwood has signature features—like a large tent, waterfront views, or an iconic garden—you can still make it feel like your wedding by focusing on the details. Think custom ceremony backdrops, florals that highlight your personalities, or a color palette that breaks the mold from what’s most commonly done.
Bailey & Nick chose to go with a color palette that was against the norm. While there was an overarching use of the color green, they went ahead and incorporated bright pastels in every color to give more of a whimsical, playful, and summer-inspired vibe. So my advice is quite simply to explore more bold color palettes or unique color combinations. Forget about the muted pink bridesmaids dresses or the navy. Let’s get creative. Bailey’s florist, Blush and Boom Floral Design used all different colors and shapes in the floral tablescapes and bouquets. The result was breathtaking.
Led by the Detail
Unique lighting, patterned linens, or personalized signage can transform the space from a familiar setting into one that feels brand new and uniquely yours. Stephanie the planner brought the idea of using personalized signage to lead the guests from ceremony to cocktail hour and then again into reception. They did this by way of creating an archway as the actual seating chart itself. Wall to Wall Ink created a stunning masterpiece and became a focal point for guest photos. Another way Bailey & Nick introduced some different visual elements was by draping the tent’s ceiling with beautiful sheer drapery. This softened the structured roof and gave a more romantic ambiance. The great thing about drapery is how you can personalize it through color and textures and even adding florals through the fabric.
Lastly, another way that Bailey and Nick chose to personalize their wedding was to create a dance floor that stood out amongst what Misselwood offered. They widened the floor and chose to wrap it with a soft green checkered flooring that drew the eye and the crowd. It really stood out in the photos and also tied the room together.
So if you picked a venue that offers the same thing couple after couple.. what are you going to do to make it feel your own? Considering adding elements and intentional decor really helps to transform a space from something basic to something far more personal.
